Electricity is generated in one place and used in another, so delivering it physically requires transmission and distribution networks. Power is transmitted at high voltage and stepped down for use, and every generator connection, substation and feeder passes through transformers. Transformer windings are conductors carrying the full load current, wound in copper (or aluminum at a larger cross-section) on electrical-steel cores. A rise in demand for delivered electricity therefore becomes, with the lead time of grid projects, a rise in demand for transformers and their materials. What this does not fix: how much of the material demand is met by substitution (aluminum for copper), by efficiency (higher-voltage designs) or by recycled supply.
