What this measures

The FAO gross production index number for food covers commodities that are considered edible and that contain nutrients; coffee and tea are excluded. Production of each commodity is weighted by international commodity prices (2014-2016 average) and expressed relative to the 2014-2016 base period, so the World value is directly comparable with each country's.
