What this measures
Total obligations on federal contract awards (award types A, B, C and D: definitive contracts, purchase orders, delivery orders and BPA calls) by every federal awarding agency, summed over the federal fiscal year from transaction-level data reported to FPDS and published on USAspending.gov. Obligations are amounts the government committed, not outlays; de-obligations reduce the total. Fiscal years run 1 October to 30 September; only closed fiscal years are stored.
